Pharmacogenomic Testing for Psychiatric Medications
Pharmacogenomic testing (genetic testing for medications) is a simple saliva test that helps your psychiatrist understand how your body may respond to certain psychiatric medications, including antidepressants, anxiety medications, and ADHD medications. This information can help guide medication selection and dosing, potentially reducing the trial-and-error process of finding the right medication.
The test can be completed at home or during a clinic visit. If done at home, a saliva collection kit will be mailed to you with a prepaid return envelope. If completed in the clinic, we can collect the sample during your appointment and send it to the lab. Test kits typically arrive within 1–2 business days, and results are usually available 8–10 business days after the lab receives your sample.
The laboratory (Tempus Labs) charges $295 for the test, which is billed directly by the lab. You may choose to use insurance or pay out of pocket. Our clinic charges a $125 clinical service fee for the doctor to review and interpret the results, discuss them with you, and make any medication recommendations if needed.
Because the test requires medical history and a diagnosis, an evaluation with one of our psychiatrists is required before testing can be ordered.
