More on the ADHD Academic Support & Accountability Group
Who is the group for?
The group for the Spring 2025 semester will be for college students (18-26) who feel they can benefit from the group. Future sessions will be geared toward high school students. If you are interested in the ADHD group for high school students, email us at office@comoclinic.com.
Do I have to have an ADHD diagnosis to participate?
No, but this group is designed to educate those that already have an ADHD diagnosis. We will not provide an ADHD diagnosis unless you are already also receiving ADHD counseling services through ADC. If you register for this group, it will be assumed that you meet criteria for an ADHD diagnosis. Proof of an official ADHD diagnosis is NOT required, just understand that you are choosing this group as a good fit for you. If you are interested in a diagnosis, contact our office at 573-239-9915 or email: office@comoclinic.com.
What is the format for the group?
The group is ongoing, however, it is semester long, running alongside the University of MO school semester. The group is offered on Tuesday evenings from 5:30-6:15pm. Group sessions will include an educational component (following the Four Dragons of ADHD system) as well as group discussion.
What will the group be like?
Group sessions are unique in that a group of people who are likely experiencing similar challenges in their lives get together to share their experiences and struggles. As a result, group members receive help from one another. We promote a safe environment that is conducive both for sharing and accepting each other where each can grow and trust one another and where everyone will feel respected and valued. The value you receive from group will be based largely on your willingness to engage in the process, which may, at times, result in discomfort. Truth sometimes hurts, and change can be challenging.
The group has already started for the semester. Can I still join?
Yes, once the group begins, new members can join at any time, with a commitment to participate in the group for the rest of the current semester.
How many people can I expect to be in the group?
Group size is limited to a 5-6 individuals in order to create the best experience for everyone. Once the group begins, new members can join at any time.
Do I have to register for the entire semester?
Yes, when you register for the group, you are committing to a full semester of 15 group sessions (or less if you join the group after the start of the semester). You are reserving a space in the group (with a limited group size) and you will be charged the session fee each week. This group structure helps to hold participants accountable to the group, as showing up and participating is how you will benefit!
Can I cancel my registration if I decide it is not a good fit for me?
If you register for the group and later decide you want to discontinue the group completely, please give at least 1 week’s notice to cancel your registration for the rest of the semester. However, you will not be able to cancel individual sessions. When you register for the group, you will be charged weekly for the 15 weeks of sessions.
Can I submit claims to my insurance for the ADHD group?
No. Our ADHD group is designed for education and peer support, which is not covered by insurance, in-network or out-of-network, so you will not be able to submit claims for this group. However, you can still utilize your HSA funds for the session fees.
What can I do if I would like more one-on-one help with my ADHD?
If you would like individual ADHD counseling or coaching, we can do that too! Check out our Understanding ADHD page for more information and our list of providers who can help. We also offer psychiatry if you are interested in options for medication management.
Can I just purchase the Four Dragons of ADHD book and planner and not participate in the group?
Yes! You can find the Four Dragons of ADHD book on Amazon and Etsy, or for sale at our clinic in Columbia. The 4Dragon Planner can be purchased on Etsy or through our clinic in Columbia.
