“Our sessions have been life changing. Truly.”
— S.R., Columbia MO
“Our daughter is a much happier person since working with Jared Torbet.   I would recommend his services to anyone looking for help with their depression or anxiety.”
— R.B., Columbia, MO
Thank you for everything you have helped me with so far. I really enjoy our sessions. I feel I’m becoming more of the husband and father my family needs.
— M.G., Columbia, MO
I really have had a breakthrough with my anxiety and I credit a lot of it to your help. I wanted you to know I appreciate it. It’s almost like chains have been released from me. I know there will be future struggles but I’ve really discovered something lately which is liberating, calming, and very beneficial for my own well-being.
— B.R., Columbia, MO
When I initially came to the clinic for services, I was looking for a non-medication-based way to address the challenges of adult ADHD, and the related anxiety it can trigger within a relationship (especially one where your partner doesn’t communicate in the same manner as you). I very much appreciated Jared’s approach that adult ADHD can be a gift in many respects, with proper application and understanding. It helped me understand that there was nothing wrong with me as I am, and this was simply a matter of learning each other’s language. Our therapy sessions had a positive impact on my life and relationship. I have always been a believer in therapy, and this was exactly what I needed, exactly when I needed it.
— R.J., Columbia, MO
Maureen is a wonderful therapist. In the short time I was her patient, she took her time to get to know me. She just listened, she didn’t immediately try to offer help or suggestions, she just listened and really wanted to get to know me and how I think. I felt like we were creating a friendship, that this was someone I could turn to and she would have no reason to agree or disagree and I really trusted her outside point of view. It was only three months but she helped me a great deal and it wasn’t until she got to know me that she would offer up suggestions or other ways to think about a situation. I felt like she genuinely cared about me.
— K.N., Columbia, MO
Jared is an excellent therapist. He’s one of the only people I’ve found for which I could open up to and feel comfortable with. He is a great listener who takes the effort to genuinely listen to his patients. I could tell that he truly cared about me, which was a great feeling because I hadn’t found that in a therapist/counselor before him. I felt like I could talk to him about anything and he’s just very down to earth. He helped me through some dark times in my life and I was fortunate to find him.
— C.J., Centralia, MO
You’ve really helped me see things and advance through them at important times. I appreciate it.
— B.R., Columbia, MO
My family has worked with Jared Torbet for the last several months and we are very pleased with his service. As a licensed therapist Jared has been personable, professional, flexible, and extremely competent in dealing with our family’s needs. We appreciate that he has the heart of a teacher and coach, and that he has been willing and able to make thoughtful and necessary adjustments according to our family’s situation and personal needs, rather than follow a prescribed and prescriptive path. With Jared’s guidance, support, and teaching we look forward to continued healing and personal growth.  We recommend him highly.
— S. Family, Columbia, MO
Going away to college is an adjustment for everyone, but as someone with ADHD I found it especially hard. First semester i was working very hard to try to do it all on my own, but when my grades came back my parents and I realized we needed to implement some sort of resource to help me manage everything or else I would have to come home. We started working with Jared second semester and have seen tremendous changes. Working with the Anxiety and Depression Clinic of Columbia has been very important in my transition to college dealing with ADHD away from home for the first time and learning about how it impacts my brain. Weekly sessions helped me to develop skills to help my time management, organization, and overall functioning as a college student with ADHD. The clinic has helped me with these skills through the incorporation of modern technology-my phone, which constantly is my reminder to be practicing my skills and continue building them since my phone never leaves my hands. We’ve seen an overall improvement in my grades let alone my entire communication and organization skills from the start of my time here until now.
— M.G., Chicago, IL
I have had numerous therapists with little luck on working through my depression and anxiety. In early 2018 Tonya Culley’s name was given to me as a possible therapist; so I called and made the best appointment of my life! Tonya has helped me work through some of my deep rooted anxiety issues as well as helping me with my depression. She has given me what I call “homework” but truly they are tips for me to use when my anxiety starts to take over and they are simple tips that I don’t have to think long and hard to bring to the forefront of my mind when I’m in the middle of an anxiety attack. I look forward to each one of my appointments with Tonya; she is constantly challenging me to better myself but always in a respectful positive manner and I love that she can be empathetic to my issues that I struggle with. I would recommend Tonya as a therapist to anyone; she has been a positive impact in my life when everything was all topsy turvy and I can’t thank her enough!
— R.A., Columbia, MO
The Anxiety and Depression Clinic of Columbia has essentially changed my life. Like many people, I was skeptical and hesitant to find myself a therapist. I wasn’t convinced it was going to ‘fix’ me, let alone in a manner that I was comfortable with. Jared is a well-practiced professional who embodies ACT to its fullest and is very easy to relate and open up to. After just a couple weeks of working with Jared, my outlook became more positive and the battle to follow through with simple daily tasks became easier to overcome. I learned that I do not need to be ‘fixed’ because I am not broken. I am continually learning to live alongside my anxiety and depression rather than wishing them to go away. Even more so, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy has taught me to filter through the thoughts, feelings and urges that do not serve me and to focus on what is really meaningful to me. As I already have to fellow family and friends, I highly recommend anyone to visit and practice ACT to potentially change their lives for the better!
— C.L., Saint Louis, MO
When I started seeing Jared, I didn’t know who I was, I had no self-confidence, a low self-esteem, and really was just exhausted from life. I have been to many therapists and doctors who would gladly give me medication or tell me what I needed to do in order to fix myself. It seemed that I was always the problem. After seeing Jared for a while, he and I both gave me permission to accept myself for who I am. When I truly accepted myself, I was able to take that further into my past to figure out how things turned out the way they did. Because of Jared and ACT therapy, I LOVE life and I LOVE myself. I look forward to going home to spend time with my family. The smile on my face is no longer fake because I am proud of who I am. It’s a process but, when you trust the process, great things happen. Everything looks brighter!! I can’t thank you enough Jared for helping me start the process of finding out who I really am and helping me decide who can sit at my table. You are amazing!!
— S.D., Columbia, MO
I started talking to Jared at the beginning of the semester as I had been struggling with ADHD tremendously since I arrived at Mizzou. Jared did an amazing job with helping me realize more about myself and what makes me tick as a person with ADHD. We then developed a very easy, ADHD oriented, organizational plan that has helped me ten fold in organizing my daily and school lives. I cannot thank Jared enough for all he has done to help me become a more detail oriented person while at the same time still embracing that fact that ADHD is a blessing and not a curse. I would absolutely recommend Jared to anyone who is struggling at all with living with ADHD.
— A.G., Columbia, MO
Jared helped me through the roughest time in my life. It was my last year of grad school, I was going through a divorce, and moving out of state. I was lost, and nearing the edge. Jared was quick to respond to my inquiry when seeking treatment and worked diligently with my student health insurance even when there was complications. Using the tools Jared taught me I have become a more mindful person and put more intention in my everyday actions. Depression and anxiety is something I still deal with every day, but these tools have made me able to not be overwhelmed, and succeed in my daily career and relationships. Jared was thoughtful and understanding, and made me feel I wasn’t alone. I can’t recommend this clinic enough, and I miss my sessions and conversations with Jared.
